Jeneve Rose Mitchell who at the ripe old age of 18, has already lived a very interesting life! You might know her as the ‘Rocky Mountain Hillbilly Girl’ who in 2015 (at the age of 15) auditioned for the final season of American Idol, and proceeded to steal the hearts of not only the judges (Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez, and Harry Connick, Jr.), but America as well. She wound up finishing in the top 14 on Idol, which was no easy task considering there were over 200,000 contestants who auditioned from just about everywhere.
Professionally performing since the age of 4, Jeneve has begun to make her unique mark in the world of music, and entertainment. She just recently returned from her first CMA festival in Nashville, where she celebrated the release her first EP, called ‘Off The Grid’. The project (produced by Anita Cochran) features an eclectic mix of covers songs and originals. The EP features a duet with Ranger Doug and Too Slim of the legendary ‘Riders In The Sky’ (who’ve now become fast friends with her), a haunting version of Johnny Cash’s ‘Ring of Fire’, the stand out autobiographical song ‘Colorado Skies’, and the hope filled song ‘I Will’. Rounding out the EP is a cover of Sarah Mclachlan’s ‘Angel’, and fun originals ‘Deck Em’ and the yodel filled ‘Ragtime Grammy’.
She lives in Crawford, Colorado, next to the elk wilderness on the western slope of the Rocky Mountains with her parents. When the family is not working (Dad Tim working the land, Mom Jenny running a non for profit health clinic in town, and Jeneve performing or attending school) the three members of this family are building a handmade house out of straw and clay, as they’ve outgrown the trailer that has housed them on their property for many years. Jeneve also has the job of training horses which she loves. She often will go explore the land by camping out, and packing into the mountains. She plays multiple instruments (12 right now) and can perform songs in a variety of genres including old time, western, gospel, blues, swing, bluegrass, alternative, and country, among others!
She has won several awards, including the Western Music Association’s Crescendo Award for best new artist. Her future goals are to perform at the Grand Ole Opry, Dollywood, and tour around the world. Her international fan base grows larger each day. It’s a humbling experience for someone so young, and the entertainment business can change some. However, Jeneve remains true to herself, and lives each day in a place that is majestic to see and it is that foundation that keeps her grounded. She can’t wait to see what is waiting for her as her musical journey continues.
